Gordon Murray created what is still generally regarded as the world's best supercar, the McLaren F1.
But Murray, who left McLaren for new challenges, believes he can make another landmark car with the potential to revolutionise city transport. His goal is huge reductions in manufacturing, running and life-cycle C02 emissions.
He calls it the T.25 and it promises to be smaller and more efficient than anything on the road today, including the tiny Smart ForTwo.
Murray began the T.25 as a two-year program, and his team in Britain is now halfway through the work. The first prototype should be built early next year, and he forecasts improvements on the original ambitious targets.
The T.25 has been designed as a tiny, lightweight, fuel-efficient car that is as safe and comfortable as any of the current micro-minis.
It is intended to slash city congestion and emissions. No one at Gordon Murray Design is saying much about the final product, though the corporate mantra is “to protect our mobility, personal freedom and driving fun while reducing the environmental damage from vehicle manufacturing and running”.
And the company is also developing an innovative way of making the T.25.
Murray's eventual aim is to sell the T.25 to a big carmaker. He is already involved in discussions, though nothing firm has been set beyond the first sight of the car early next year.
