Australia stocks close at 6-month high, jobs surprise

  MELBOURNE, May 7 (Reuters) - Australian stocks rose 1.85 percent on Thursday to a six-month closing high, led by miners as positive signs on jobs in both the U.S. and Australia added to growing optimism the worst of the recession may be past. The benchmark S & amp;P/ASX 200 index .AXJO rose 71.6 points to 3,938.7 points, based on the latest available data.
