Australia stocks up 1.4 pct; Rio, BHP in venture

  MELBOURNE, June 5 (Reuters) - Australian stocks rose 1.4 percent on Friday as Woodside Petroleum WPL.AX and Commonwealth Bank CBA.AX gained, helped by a hike in oil and copper prices and improved sentiment over U.S. banks, while BHP Billiton jumped on news of an iron ore joint venture with Rio Tinto.
